Dr. Natalie Hernandez
Dr. Natalie Hernandez is a board-certified pediatric endocrinologist with advanced fellowship training in pediatric obesity medicine, metabolism, diabetes, and hormone health. She is board-certified in general pediatrics and board-certified in pediatric endocrinology. Dr. Hernandez has dedicated her career to helping children and adolescents with obesity, insulin resistance, prediabetes, type 2 diabetes, Polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome (PMOS), and other complex metabolic and endocrine disorders through compassionate, evidence-based, and highly individualized care.
Education & Training
Dr. Hernandez earned her Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Central Florida before receiving her medical degree from Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University. She completed both her pediatric residency and pediatric endocrinology fellowship at Duke University Hospital, where she received extensive training in the diagnosis and management of complex endocrine and metabolic diseases affecting children and adolescents.
Pediatric Obesity & Metabolic Health
At LIFE Pediatric Endocrinology, Dr. Hernandez serves as the physician leader of the Confident Body Program, helping children and teenagers develop healthier relationships with food, movement, metabolism, and long-term wellness. While she has expertise across the full spectrum of pediatric endocrinology, her clinical passion centers on pediatric obesity, metabolic health, insulin resistance, PMOS, type 2 diabetes, and comprehensive medical weight management. She believes obesity is a complex medical condition, not simply a matter of willpower. Instead, successful treatment requires understanding the many biological, hormonal, nutritional, behavioral, and environmental factors that influence a child's health.
Rather than relying on one-size-fits-all treatment plans, Dr. Hernandez develops personalized care strategies tailored to each child and family. Depending on the individual, this may include nutritional guidance, lifestyle optimization, behavioral coaching, metabolic evaluation, treatment of underlying endocrine disorders, and, when appropriate, the thoughtful use of evidence-based medications such as GLP-1 receptor agonists. Her goal is not simply weight loss, but improving lifelong metabolic health, reducing future disease risk, supporting healthy growth and puberty, and helping children build sustainable habits that last into adulthood.
Personalized, Integrative Care
Dr. Hernandez believes the best outcomes occur when families fully understand their child's condition and become active partners in the treatment process. She is known for taking time to educate families, answer questions thoroughly, and develop practical treatment plans that are realistic, sustainable, and individualized. Her approach combines academic pediatric endocrinology with an integrative philosophy, recognizing that nutrition, sleep, physical activity, emotional well-being, family dynamics, and hormone health all work together to support lifelong wellness.
Concierge Pediatric Endocrinology
As part of LIFE Pediatric Endocrinology's concierge model, Dr. Hernandez provides families with the time, accessibility, and continuity that are often difficult to find in traditional healthcare. She works closely with families over time, carefully monitoring progress, adjusting treatment plans as children grow and develop, and helping families feel supported every step of the journey.
Outside the Office
Outside of medicine, Dr. Hernandez enjoys traveling, discovering new restaurants, spending time with her family and two cats, and prioritizing her own health through regular movement, mindfulness, and balance. Her personal commitment to healthy living reflects the same principles she encourages in the families she serves every day.
